AIA/IDAHO HONORS DESIGN EXCELLENCE
October 6, 2006. The American Institute
of Architects, Idaho presented their Bi-annual design awards Friday night at the Boise Art
Museum. The public took part as well by casting their votes in the Peoples
Choice Awards, selecting three projects from around the state.
Three nationally-recognized architects made
up the 2006 AIA/Idaho Design Awards jury:
Michael Tingley, AIA |
Prescott Muir, AIA |
Eric Migacz, AIA |
We also had an essay competition again this year for an Idaho intern architect to be part of the jury process. This year we had three essays that were judged by the jury and Mr. Bryan J. Hallowell was selected to be the intern juror.
Six projects were selected for distinction:

Award of Citation;
Private Foothills Residence
Boise (Hummel Architects of Boise)
Idaho Youth Ranch Hays Shelter Home
Boise (ZGA Architects & Planners of Boise)

Awards of Merit
Idaho Water Center Boise (NBBJ in association ZGA Architects & Planners of
Boise)

Caldwell Family YMCA Caldwell (ZGA Architects & Planners of Boise)

Js Ultimate Hand Car Wash Garden City (Cole + Poe Architects of Boise)

The public
participated in the process as well by casting their votes in the Peoples Choice
Award, selecting three projects from around the state. The winner of the
Peoples Choice Award was a private residence designed by Jim McLaughlin of
McLaughlin & Associates in Sun Valley.
We were so
pleased and impressed the quality of all the entries for the 2006 competition. This
level of interest demonstrates the growing statewide commitment to intelligent and
creative architectural design, said Steve Turney, 2006 AIA Idaho Design Awards
Chairman.
Consisting of over 300 members, AIA Idaho
strives to create and maintain an enduring environment for the work of architects in the
culture and commerce of the community. To advance this mission, AIA Idaho is
committed to carrying the message of architecture to those who benefit from the work of
architects; providing an environment where architects can come together and share the
common issues of their practice and the satisfaction of their accomplishments; promoting
architects to positions of social, economic, and political influence; and developing and
distributing the means by which architects can better perform the roles-both new and
traditional-available to them.
The AIA Idaho Awards Committee will follow up
with a January 2007 special section for the architecture profession in Idaho in the Idaho
Business Review. On January 15th, AIA Idaho, in partnership with the
Idaho Business Review, will debut Idaho Design Outlook 2007. This full-color,
special supplement section will be distributed with the Idaho Business Review and the
Idaho Construction Review to reach over 15,000 business leaders, architects and
construction industry professionals across the state.
The Idaho Design Outlook 2007 will
feature color imagery and project information for all entries in the AIA Idaho 2006 Design
Awards program. The 30 projects came from all corners of the state and represent the
best in Idaho architectural design and construction. In addition to the design
awards feature, Idaho Design Outlook 2007 will contain articles and features
written by the states leading professionals on topics of interest to the design,
construction, and business community.
Our theme for the publication is World
Class and Close to Home and will highlight the exceptional quality and diversity of
Idahos design professionals and our partners in the construction industry.
